Design to delivery

I offer a comprehensive, personal design package, taking care of all the little details, so you can relax and take comfort in knowing that the journey will be stress free and enjoyable. My personal involvement in each project ensures a well communicated scheme and a uniquely individual outcome that is tailored completely to your requirements.

Philosophy

I seek to create gardens that provide formality and elegance in structure, softened by bountiful, considerate planting. Each project is unique and approached individually, although I follow simple principles of finding sustainable solutions, increasing ecological diversity and forging a strong relationship between people and place. I take a holistic, analytical and long-term view, from considering how the garden compliments it’s setting and wider surroundings, right down to the bespoke detailing and individual plant choices. Whether your vision is a bold, contemporary statement or a subtle, relaxing country garden, I will soon open your eyes to all the achievable possibilities.

My role as a designer is to listen to your needs, understand your wishes and realise the spatial, functional and environmental potential of the garden, resulting in a lovingly-crafted space where you feel you are positively rewarded.

Process

Whilst every project is unique, they all tend to follow a similar journey:

Design consultation & brief:  A visit to your garden to discuss in detail the requirements, key objectives, time scales and budget. This visit is essential in beginning to understand the essence and practicalities of your space.

Site survey:  I will return to your garden to undertake a full photographic survey, measure the site and existing buildings, trees, services, utilities; and conduct a site analysis, which feeds into the design.

Concept design: I will present you with a design proposal plan, which will convey exactly how the finished garden will look and feel. Materials, fine details and plant choices are not finalised at this time. This is a discussion stage, in which the design can evolve before you agree the final plan.

Detailed design: Once the final design is agreed, I will produce detailed plans, ready to be costed and built by a  contractor. Whilst I cannot offer to build the garden myself, I am able to recommend trusted and capable contractors to you. You are of course free to appoint your own.

Construction inspection: An optional site inspection service is available to you during the build. I will make regular site visits to monitor progress, resolve any problems and to be responsive to any changes caused by the site, or required by you as the client.

Planting: I will produce detailed planting plans and specifications with sizes, quantities and costings. You may wish to be more involved in this stage, in which case I will work alongside you in selecting plants. I can offer to source plants from a trusted nursery and complete the planting for you.
